Well needle women who are not faced with the problem of storage spools of thread? I think all who are more at least ten pieces. And if anyone has a serger, so it is necessary to multiply the number of threads at least four. To solve this problem arose here is “engineering marvel”. So imagine my new box for storing thread
“Gold and Lace”
All coils are, each in its place, tightly covered with a lid, so they never pulled out and can not be confused, even if the box flip and shake considerably. Also clearly visible color of thread, easy to remove from the box will not slip while the other coil, and just put in place, which will, if necessary, organize the strings in color, for example. This box fits exactly 60 coils.
Design.
First, you need to put the marks on the bottom of the box, in order that-be uniformly set pins to thread.
Draw a grid cell size of 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm (15 mm). These sizes are calculated for the standard coil 6 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm.
Next, do the markup in a checkerboard pattern, as shown in the photo. At this point, we will have to be yourself pins, so for each coil we will have enough space.
In the next step you will have a nice opportunity to connect to the process of creative man. (Although not really hard to do everything and the most, but we have something clever, we know that men’s nice to know that they are strong and we are in great need … but tsssss … it will remain our little secret;)
So, puts a box inside the upturned wooden block, because the further need to wield a large nail and a hammer. Firstly what would happen to damage the work surface, and secondly that it would be a tin bottom of the box is not strongly deformed.
Here’s what you should have at this stage: neat rows of neat holes, at the same distance from each other.
If absolutely necessary, you can level a little deformed bottom, from the inside, using a block of wood and a hammer.
Now set the pins.
As I have used pins screws (3.5 x 50 mm) and a nut thereto. 60 screws and nuts I paid exactly 90 rubles, I think that it is not even a lot, given that more than a penny extra is not spent.
So, gather design. If necessary, help yourself tools, I only had a small pair of pliers.
Here is the box assembled from below.
And inside.
A little trick.
To nut does not spin, you can put a drop of clear nail polish or a transparent adhesive
2. Decorate the box.
Let’s start with the cover.
My box has already had a golden edging on the cover, I decided to leave it and pick up the tone color, so advance has stuck edge masking tape, so that progress was not dirty or scratched.
Further, in the course went different subjects: old Blunt scissors, zippers, lace trim and lace, buttons, old wooden reel of thread and even the old brooch.
All this hot melt glue on the pre-composition.
Here is a hodge-podge of shapes, colors and textures.
Large empty space can be filled with crumpled napkin on PVA glue.
By the same token make out the box itself from the sides.
In the next step covering everything (better to layer 2) dark paint. I used dark brown acrylic paint (you can use other dark colors would look very interesting dark blue or burgundy color, it all depends on your imagination). Each layer must dry thoroughly. Brown on top, sometimes inflicted black, thus allocated reliefs.
While still looks scary, especially in light of the camera flash.
At the final stage manifests all the subtleties of relief gold acrylic paint. Carefully, using a semi-dry sponge and brush plating the gold paint, lightly touching the surface, a little more than paying attention to the most outstanding parts.
Well, that’s all! Remove protective masking tape over the edge of the lid, and admire the result.
You may want to cover the top with acrylic lacquer.
