Lampshades: Now we are going to create a variety and the same time beautiful one… Lampshades..
Let’s see how to make Lampshades in fusing technique.
Right on the special heat-resistant board, pre-coated with a primer, paint the contours of the future shape of the lampshade (pencil is very convenient)
Shatterer for glass cut the white solid piece of glass to pieces.
Cut.
Breaks.
Where necessary to “nibble” nippers for mosaics.
Getting the long, painstaking process of creating shapes – folding pieces of glass in accordance with the drawn outline.
so,

Finally finished 1 layer.
Getting laid layer 2, connecting all the gaps between them.
On the tips of “Ray,” we put on a piece of glass to be thickened edge.
We put in the oven our form (as to space is not “walk” puts a couple
And now begins a long and mysterious process of fusing – baking. It lasts for about 15 hours – 5:00 active baking and about 10 at the closed slow cooling furnace. Open can not be otherwise from the temperature difference can crack the glass. Stored patient and wait.
Well? Open?
Of course!
Magic moment!
Opening the oven – it’s always a surprise! After all, you never know how has sintered glass, which will take the form of fused pieces. Glass, by heating to 800 degrees, it becomes soft, like thick honey, and quietly “gutter” flows.
The skill of creating products from fusing is not only in glass cutting, artistic vision, precision in the assembly (though, at first glance, looks like a folded glass “sketched”) but also in anticipation, the feeling of it themselves “lead.” This comes with time and experience.
For each item, I pick your temperature control (it all depends on the desired effect which is needed eventually – smooth surface or embossed).
Well, the first phase is completed. Framework for lampshade ready.
Next, we stack our billet on a special form for bending (it processes in which the glass under high-temperature exposure is mitigated and acquires the desired shape).
With the first form had a problem because I needed to find a ready-made form, I could not. I had to make yourself out of the ordinary clay (but that’s another story, which “pulls” to the new post is not short).
Laid on workpiece shape and again into the furnace all!
At 15 hours.
We wait.
And here is the finished shade.
Just out of the oven in the form of:
And without.
Now my evening reading will be comfortable and romantic.
This was my first master class on fusing and the first test of my form for bending.
