stackable shelves

These stackable easy homemade shelves come together using wood letters and some boards. You can definitely assemble even if you are not familiar with any woodworking! They are perfect to be used to add height to your food display for parties, stack two together for a cute dessert display, or even just use one to add more space to your kitchen counters. See how easy it is to assemble so you can make your own!

DIY Stackable ShelvesSupplies needed to make your own stackable easy homemade shelves:

Hot Glue Gun

Step 1. Acquire pine board from a local hardware store. The pine board width would depend on how wide your letters are – for me, I used an 8″ wide letter so my pine board width would be 10″. Have it cut to size – I wanted a 24” width stand so that is how wide my board is, but you can definitely make it shorter to fit your needs. Sand the edges so they’re smooth and remove any imperfections. Sand your letters as well.

Step 2. Paint the letters you have chosen – for mine, I used these X’s for a farmhouse look, but any letter with a flat top and bottom will work! I only painted the sides and front and back surfaces but left the top and bottom surfaces bare as it would be attached to the boards.

Step 3. Paint the boards. I used a different paint color for the boards and a different color for the letters for a fun pop of color, but you can definitely customize it to your liking – paint them all a single color or even use stain. Once the paint is dry, seal them with a wax or polyurethane.

Step 4. Once they are dry, attach a letter on each side of one board using hot glue and you have your shelf. If you want it to be extra secure, drill a screw into the board and through to the letter. And you’re done!

Make two (or three!) easy homemade shelves to stack and use for organizing and for parties. I think this would be a great desk shelf for crafting storage as well. What organizing activities have you done for the new year?
